What are the logical reasons against requiring an ID to vote in the USA? If the government offered to provide IDs for this purpose I fail to see why people are against it.

Last thoughts. Vote with your intelligence not emotions. A popularity contest does not equate to good governance.

Read some of the comments. Here is my version of this. The person expecting to vote cannot be expected to maintain their own record documentation, like their “BIRTH CERTIFICATE.” After Katrina in S Mississippi, the excuse “Katrina” washed my paperwork and ID away was used until current, (Sep 24). Katrina Aug 29, 2005. In Urban areas, same excuse, the LIP (Local Indigenous Population) blamed unable to travel so far to get ID, they might not have a bus fare or subway token. (See ““POLL TAX” below). No birth certificate, hard to retain record. Cannot be expected to pay for ID. They equate it to a ““POLL TAX”, see 15th Amendment and “Jim Crow” laws enacted by DEMOCRATS in Southern States. And Literacy tests, seems like that may not be a bad idea today…

So others have commented about hotel, plane travel, foreign travel and other items. I seem to travel for work, not so much pleasure. I seem to have a pressing need to identify myself. Maybe, I should just get all the “FREE STUFF” I seem to have paid for for years instead of working my AZZ off!

However, these same STALWARTS of DEMOCRACY seem to not connect that their best constituents have had to at least ONCE showed a GOVT issued ID to get on Welfare, food stamps, WIC, (and a baby birth certificate too!) public housing, EBT/SNAP cards, OBAMAPHONES, cash a GOVT check, and even buy alcohol. It’s amazing how they can use these to take trips to Hawaii or to strip clubs, but it’s too inconvenient for them to prove they are not registering “DEAD PEOPLE” to vote absentee with no proof. Who reports themselves as dead and gets them off the voter rolls? But if a state does it’s due diligence to purge voter rolls, they are “RACIST”.
